School District Improvement Plan

(2007-2008)

 

 

            Essential Elements

 

 

1.         The teachers of the District will continue and complete initial curriculum mapping to improve horizontal and vertical articulation and alignment with Illinois learning standards.

2.         In cooperation with Illinois Central College, the District will continue to develop and promote the “Fast Start Program” whereby selected students are able to attend college while still in high school and earn both college credits and high school credits.

3.         The teachers and administrators will continue the use and development of local assessments.

4.         The District will continue with Differentiated Instruction training and delivery of differentiated instruction for all students so that they are taught what they need at an appropriate level for each individual student.

5.         The District will provide summer school and extra tutoring for needy students as appropriate and practical.

6.         The District will continue efforts to promote Integrated and Cooperative Teaching practices at all grade levels.

7.         The District will continue efforts in the area of literacy improvement including writing across the curriculum, Guided Reading and Four Block Literacy Programs.

8.         The District will revise and expand the Gifted Program.

9.         The District will develop and train a Data Analysis Team to make better use of existing data for school improvements and to seek additional data where needed.

10.       The District will provide counseling and additional support services for elementary and middle school students.

 

 

All of the school improvement efforts will be led, coordinated, and evaluated by school

administrators and the individual school curriculum councils – and globally by the District

Curriculum Council with periodic reports to the Board of Education.
