MIDLAND PTO MINUTES  10-27-08

 

Terri Lambrecht called the meeting to order at 6:30 p.m.

Principal’s Report

            Ms. Albers    

                        -New Pre-k teacher Rebekah Hayes started 10-10-08

                        -Family Reading Night = November 6, 2008 @ 6:00 pm

                        -Principal Advisory meeting  = October 28, 2008 @ 6:30 pm

                                    -ISAT, Strategic Plan

                        -3rd grade Bear Den cleaned landscaping

                        -parking changes not in effect yet

                        -? Picture retake day

            Mrs. Frey

                        -Community Breakfast was October 10, 2008

                        -Monster Mash brought in 200 + kids         

                        -Principal Advisory meeting = October 29, 2008 7:00 pm

                        -Red Ribbon Week

                        -Veterans Day

                        -Conferences went well.  She will be calling parents that need to come

 

New Business

 

            Mr. Sivertsen

                        -Powerpoint of Strategic Plan           

                                    -Midland is operating in deficit spending of $300,000.00

                                    -projected is $400,000.00 for next year

                                    -property taxes went up 18% which led to decreased state

                                     Funding

                        -parents are encouraged to take online survey to express their ideas

                        -enrollment has decreased by 19%

                        -focus group sign up passed around

                        -many steps in strategic plan process

            Mrs. Frey

                        -Middle School curriculum needs

                                    -students need to be “jury ready”, critical thinkers,

                                      teamplayers, good neighbors

                                    -focused reading groups are used for transitional guided

                                     reading= building a library of books and students will be

                                     ready for high school

                       

            Mrs. Harbaugh

                        -Cool Creek Nite-Life

                                    -suggested a fundraiser for middle school students in

                                      LaRose

                                    -tabled for tonight for discussion at a later date

            Sun Foundation

                        -? Renew funding

                                    -$165.00 already approved in the budget

 

Old Business

           

            -Garage Sale

                        -people stated there wasn’t enough advertising

                        -mostly toys left over

                        -made $257.45

            -Monster Mash

                        -40 parents donated/volunteered

                        -200+ kids

            -Script

                        -forms sent out last week

                        -due Nov 14th

                        -gift card will be in Dec. 17th

            -Carnival Date and Letter    

                        -February 7, 2009 4-7 pm

                        -set up February 6, 2009
