Midland PTO Meeting Minutes
Monday September 28, 2009
Elementary School Cafeteria
Officer Attendance: Staci Blew, Sonia Morrison, Lisa
Stewart, Tiona Kimble, Nicole Sivertsen, Lori Blackburn, and Stacy Watkins.
Principal Attendance: Julie Albers (Elementary)
General Assembly: Angie Riddell, Sue Moreland, Rolf
Sivertsen, Margie Deffenbaugh, Jessica Farrell, Kristal Toman, Marge Watkins,
Melissa Grandsart, Molly Lequia, Rhonda Urazoff.
Meeting called to order at 6:30p.m. by Lisa Stewart with
general introductions around the room.
Secretary’s Report: Copies of the meeting minutes from the
last PTO meeting was available for review. (See Attached)
Treasurer’s Report: Copies of the budget were available for
review. (See Attached)
SALES TAX.-Rolf Sivertsen, Superintendant Midland School
District #7
- Rolf Sivertsen stood up in front of the group to present
a Power Point presentation on a “School Facility Sales Tax.”
- Mr. Sivertsen there for informational purposes and to
implore the support of Midland parents.
- Q & A session held after presentation. Mr. Sivertsen
thanked the PTO for the opportunity and for the suggestions offered.
PRINCIPAL REPORT-Ms. Albers
- Ms. Albers presented a request from teacher Jackie Smith
for a DVD/VCR Combo for her classroom. Estimate less than $100 for this
purchase.
- A motion was made (1.Sue Moreland 2.Melissa Grandsart)
to purchase the DVD/VCR .
- The motion was passed.
MMS Audio Needs – TABLED FOR NEXT MEETING.
MMS BOOK FAIR-Sonia Morrison
- Request from the middle school to supplement their book
fair sales in order for them to reach the next level of incentive. They
estimate it would be $100-$200 according to past book fair sales.
- Much discussion held.
- A motion was made (1.Kristal Toman 2. Molly Lequia) to
offer $100 for this time and to look into possibly merging the elementary and
middle school book fairs under the same contract, since elementary school does
better financially for this event.
- The motion was passed.
MRS. VEST SOCIAL STUDY AIDES REQUEST-Sonia Morrison

In Mrs. Vest absence, Sonia presented a request for 6th
grade social studies materials. Books and journals were requested in the sum of
$306.87.

Much discussion held on whether all other venues were sought to
pay for these materials.

A motion was made (1. ___________2. Molly Lequia) to table this
until we have more information.
MARKET DAY-Melissa Grandsart
- Melissa thanked everyone for their help for our first
Market Day. In all, we had 66 customers and earned $340 total.
- Next pickup is October 21st from 5:30-6:30.
- Per Melissa, a letter has been created and will be sent
to the grade level designated for said pick up date to ask for volunteers.
Kindergarten letters are going out soon.
- Marge Deffenbaugh offers her Boy Scout Troops. 5-6
volunteers per pick up.
PBIS-TBALED FOR NEXT MEETING
CARNIVAL-Lisa Stewart
- Lisa announced the breakdown of committees for the
upcoming carnival in February, date is tentatively scheduled for Saturday
February 6, 2010.
The committees are as follows:
PR-Stacy Watkins,Volunteers-Staci Blew, Silent Auction-Sonia Morrison, Letters
to Vendors-Lisa Stewart,Tiona Kimble, Kitchen-Terri Lambrecht, Prize Room-Lori
Blackburn, Grand Raffle-Molly Lequia, Table Raffle/Buckets-Carrie Schupp,
Cleanup-Nicole Sivertsen
- Marge Watkins and Margie Deffenbaugh in charge of middle
school entertainment for carnival/small gym
PTO CHILDCARE-Tiona Kimble
- Tiona handed out the babysitting guidelines and referral
form. (see attached)
- Program allows high school students to get extra credit
for each time they babysit for the PTO. This includes Market Day also.
- Tiona Kimble will be in charge of this process,
collecting sign in and out sheet and getting the babysitters for the dates
accordingly. If Tiona not able to attend the sheets will be with the aftercare
supplies in the cabinet in the cafeteria.
- A motion was made (1.Melissa Grandsart 2. Staci Blew) to
approve the forms
- The motion was passed.
GRANDPARENT’S DAY-Kristal Toman
- Kristal announced that planning for G-day is going well.
The date is Thursday October 8th at 2:00. Discussion was held on
photo sessions-how many setups are needed.
- There will be 3 photo areas for students to take
pictures with their grandparents. Kristal has volunteers to take the pictures.
They are instructed to get the disk to Sonia for processing.
- A cookie donation sign up sheet was passed around the
room for delivery the morning of the event.
FUN BLASTS-Marge Watkins
- Marge gave an update on events. They will be $2 per
student to attend.
ROOM PARENTS-Staci Blew
- A rules list and allergy alert went out to room parents.
- Sonia Morrison will be head room parent for Mr. Ricci’s
room.
- Staci is still in need of chairperson for office help.
SCHOOL PAX-Sonia Morrison
- Sonia announced that a letter was sent home regarding
the Pax system.
- Parents can sign up on-line and vendors will give a
percentage back to the school for each purchase made.
- Rhonda Urazoff stated that the code for Midland does not
work, but you can pull up the school name. Sonia will look into this.
- Per Sonia, easy way to donate back to PTO.
COMMITTEE OPENINGS/NON-FUNDRAISER FUNDRAISER-Lisa Stewart
- Lisa listed out the committees still in need of
chairpersons.
Marge Watkins volunteered to head
the Baked Goods for Bake Sale Committee for the middle school, Angie Riddell
volunteered for the elementary school.
- Discussion was held on how to proceed with NFF
(Non-Fundraiser Fundraiser). PTO would like this to go out beginning of
October. Due to time, board decided to meet during the upcoming weekend to
discuss how to proceed.
- Meeting for NFF will be 5:00 Friday, October 2-American
Legion. Board members to attend and divide up the task of putting together and
mailing out the NFF letters.
Meeting adjourned at 8:10p.m.
