Welcome Back!
Welcome to
We also want to extend a special
welcome to our new kindergarten students- the Midland High School Class of 2019!
This will be my fourth year as
principal at Midland Elementary. This year, we will welcome four new teachers, a
school social worker and one support staff member to our school. We
also have changes in staff assignments for the upcoming school year.
Laurie DeSmet will be moving from
second grade to intermediate special education, while Diane Wunder has been
promoted to the head cook position. Teachers new to our school this year include
Sheila Hartwig (early childhood special education), Krista Lohnes (first grade),
Jennifer Davis (second grade) and Toni Moroni (speech and language pathologist).
We also welcome Lauryl Newell, who will be our social worker to be shared with
the middle school. We also want to welcome a new face in our school kitchen,
Tracy Cotton, our new cook. Our new teachers and staff bring a wonderful
combination of experience, youth and knowledge to our school. They will fit in
well with our talented and caring faculty and staff.
One of the most significant changes you’ll see in our school this year is the addition of our new computer lab, located next to the library (in the superintendent’s former office). We are excited to be able to offer computer instruction for an entire class at the same time (rather than splitting a class in two!) and look forward to providing additional opportunities for classes and students to utilize our lab for extended learning experiences.
Students at Midland Elementary have
the opportunity to learn from an experienced, dedicated and caring faculty,
participate in a wide variety of school activities and develop the skills
necessary for becoming successful life long learners.
We want your child to be happy and successful at school and
believe that you play a key role. That role is to continually show interest in
and support for your child. The child who knows that his or her family is
interested in and supports the school program will almost always have fewer
problems in school and will enjoy greater success.
We believe in fair and consistent discipline that encourages
students to be responsible for themselves. At school we try to create a safe
environment where courtesy and kindness prevail and where there is respect for
differences in other people, customs, and cultures.
Students
are most successful when teachers and parents communicate and work together to
provide the best opportunities for learning—both in and out of the classroom.
Please
share with your child’s teacher any information regarding his/her special
needs that will help us better serve your child and your family. We believe that communication among parents, students, and
teachers is critical in assuring student success.
I hope you’ll visit our school
website often. Each month, you will be able to find our school newsletter,
monthly school calendar and the breakfast and lunch menu. In addition, you can
find email addresses for our teachers, our school handbook, our school supply
list and information about various curriculum initiatives, including the
district’s curriculum mapping.
Please contact me at (309) 246-7215
or at jalbers@midland-7.org if I can
be of further assistance.
We look forward to a great school
year!
Sincerely,
Julie Albers
