From the Principal’s Desk…

                                     Ms. Julie Albers, Principal

Can you believe that we are more than mid-way through the first quarter of this school year? Though the calendar tells us it is fall, our warm Indian summer temperatures sure tell us differently! The kids have done a wonderful job adapting back to warmer temperatures, though we hope that cool, crisp fall days are not too far away!  Our Pre-K students have visited Tanner’s Orchard already, and our first graders will soon spend a morning devoted to “apple activities” as they celebrate the fall season. Later this week, our second graders will highlight the culmination of a science unit with a “Pirate Day” filled with fun learning opportunities. We know that these activities could not be planned without the support of parents and family members who come in to assist our teachers. We appreciate your support of these projects!

Thank you to all of the parents and family members who attended our Open House in September. The children are always excited to “show off” their classroom, have you meet their teachers and spend the evening with you. We changed our format somewhat this school year. I hope that you found this format to be informative and helpful to you and your child.

Many of you scheduled your conference with your child’s teacher at Open House…thanks for doing that. Parent-Teacher conferences are such an important time. If you did not have the opportunity to set up a conference time, you will be hearing from your child’s teacher soon (or you may already have!) regarding a day/time. Please make the effort to set up a time to meet with your child’s teacher and discuss his/her progress so far this school year. We need your support in order to be successful in our work with your child.

Included with this month’s newsletter is a Parent Survey. I hope you’ll take a few minutes to read and complete the survey, commenting where appropriate. We are planning for our Family Night activities and curriculum workshops and need your input in the planning process. Remember that there is a special treat for the class that has the highest return percentage of surveys!  Thanks for your help!

Our school continues to be a busy place each evening! Besides our Open House, our Principal’s Advisory Committee held its first meeting in September; you can read more about this committee’s work in the newsletter. Our October meeting is set for October 9th. Our Title I Parent Night is scheduled for October 2nd, starting at 6:00 pm. Please refer to the enclosed October calendar for an up-to-date schedule for this month’s events and activities. As always, we appreciate your participation and support.

We look forward to seeing you and your family throughout the upcoming month…whether it is during our Grandparents Day celebration, at the Book Fair or at Parent Teacher Conferences. There are many opportunities to visit our school and share in your child’s education.

Enjoy this month’s newsletter…and bring on the cooler weather!
