September 2007

From the Principal’s Desk…

Well...we are surviving the heat and have made it through the first two weeks of school! The children are doing a wonderful job transitioning back to school  and falling back into our daily routines. We currently have a Pre-K through 4th enrollment of 295, which is just a few students (6) less than what we ended the 2006-07 school year with. Our new teachers are fitting in well, and are combining with our faculty to create a cohesive, family-like staff. Our students and teachers are starting each morning with our Morning Assembly, which you can read more about in this month’s newsletter. This gives us an opportunity to come together each morning, celebrate what’s right with Midland Elementary and start our day together!

Since the August newsletter, we have had an addition to our teaching staff. Betsy Wilkinson joins us as a fourth grade teacher. Betsy grew up in Stark County and attended Bradley University. She graduated in May of 2007 and we are excited to have her join our staff! Welcome Betsy!

In this month’s newsletter, you’ll also find information about our Open House/Back to School Night, which will be held on Thursday, September 6th, beginning at 6:30 pm in our gym. Our format will be a little different this year, so please be sure to read the newsletter article to learn more about how this night will be conducted. We hope to see many of our families at school that night!

Finally, a special thank you to the Midland Parents Club for providing some cool treats on these warm afternoons! They have generously provided popsicles and freezer pops for students and teachers-they have been a refreshing treat during the hot afternoon!

The school year is off to a great start! I encourage each of you to become involved with what’s happening in our school~participate in Parents Club meetings; attend school activities, such as our upcoming Open House; take an active role in your child’s learning by reading with him/her each night; communicate with your child’s teacher regularly...only by working together can we provide the best learning opportunities for our students!
