From the Principal’s Desk…
Unpredictable spring weather has arrived! It can be sunny and warm enough for shorts one day, then dreary and chilly or even snowy the next! Please help to ensure that your child is appropriately dressed for the weather of the day. Several children have arrived at school in warm weather shorts, when temperatures are chilly enough for pants and jackets. Your help in watching the weather and having your child dressed for these unpredictable days is greatly appreciated and makes recess much more bearable!
Due to our snow days earlier this year, the school calendar has been adjusted. Our last day for student attendance is set for Tuesday, May 26th. This is a 2:25 pm dismissal day. Our Awards Assembly also be on May 26th, starting at 9 am in the gym. We will hold our annual Field Day activities on that same day, May 26th, starting around 11 am. You will receive more information about these activities in the May newsletter, but I wanted to inform you of the dates now in order to plan accordingly.
ALERT NOW!! During the past month, you may have received a few “strange” phone calls from the district. We now have a new parent notification system, which is called “Alert Now.” It is used to inform parents/guardians of school closings, upcoming events, emergency situations, and other important information. The program continues to call the home phone number or cell phone number until the phone is answered or a message can be left. This system will be especially useful when communicating to parents about snow days!
On Monday, April 27th, our PTO Meeting will be held at Pizza Peel in Lacon. This meeting will begin at 6 pm. We want to invite all parents and guardians to join us that evening for an opportunity to meet and visit with other Midland Elementary and Midland Middle School parents and share ideas. Many times, parents want to become involved, but just aren’t too sure how to go about doing it. This will be great time to find out how you can help during Teacher Appreciation Week, Field Day or even an activity or event for the 2009-10 school year! We have a wonderful PTO which provides so many things for our students in both buildings, but we need LOTS of parents at all grade levels to be involved to make our group a thriving group! I look forward to seeing you there!
Hurry up Spring!
