November 2008
Dear Midland Elementary Parents and Families:
Can you believe that we are already working our way through the second quarter of the school year! We’ve had a taste of much, much cooler morning weather this week. Many kids are coming to school without needed warmer coats, gloves/mittens, hats, etc. It is chilly out there in the mornings! We go outside if the air temperature or the wind chill is 20 degrees or higher, so please help your child plan accordingly. Recess is no fun when you are too cold to enjoy your time outside!
Thank you to all of our parents and caregivers who attended Parent Teacher Conferences in October. These meetings give you an opportunity to find out exactly how your child is doing and what you and the classroom teacher can do together to make this year a rewarding and meaningful year for your child. If you did not have the opportunity to meet with your child’s teacher, please make arrangements to do so, even if it is a phone conference. We can not release the report card until the parent-teacher conference has been held.
We want to welcome a new member to the MES Staff…Mrs. Rebekah Hayes. She is our new Starting Blocks Pre-K teacher, replacing Mrs. Kimble. You can read more about Mrs. Hayes in this month’s newsletter. We are happy to have her as a part of our staff!
The next two Tuesdays are important days for all Americans. On November 4th, I encourage you to exercise your right to vote in our national election. There are others in many foreign countries who do not have this same privilege. We all have this privilege because of the men and women now and before us who have made the ultimate sacrifices for our freedom and rights. We also honor those members of the military this month during Veteran’s Day on November 11th. If you are a Veteran or you know someone who is, please encourage them to attend the Midland High School Veteran’s Day Assembly, starting at 9 am on November 11th at the high school. It is a very small way in which we can honor those who have given of themselves, allowing us to live the kind of lives we are able to live, with the freedoms and rights, such as voting, that we should not take for granted.
Happy Thanksgiving!
Julie Albers, Principal
