November 2009
Dear Midland Elementary Parents and Families:
Can you believe that we are already working our way through the second quarter of the school year! We’ve definitely had a taste of cooler, rainy weather this week. We are hopeful the rain will end soon so that our farmer friends can get into the fields and begin their fall harvest. Please help us to make sure that your children are properly dressed for the outside time at school. Many kids are coming to school without needed warmer coats, gloves/mittens, hats, etc. It is chilly out there in the mornings! We go outside if the air temperature or the wind chill is 20 degrees or higher, so please help your child plan accordingly. Recess is no fun when you are too cold to enjoy your time outside!
Thank you to all of our parents and caregivers who attended Parent Teacher Conferences in October. These meetings give you an opportunity to find out exactly how your child is doing and what you and the classroom teacher can do together to make this year a rewarding and meaningful year for your child. If you did not have the opportunity to meet with your child’s teacher, please make arrangements to do so, even if it is a phone conference. We can not release the report card until the parent-teacher conference has been held.
I would like to encourage all parents to attend our Principal’s Advisory Committee meeting, which is scheduled for Tuesday, November 3rd, starting at 6:30 pm in the library. This committee meets approximately every six weeks and allows parents the opportunity to share ideas and concerns about our school. We always need parental input on this committee, and your ideas and suggestions are valuable in making our school a better place for your children. Our meetings tend to last about one hour, so I hope you’ll be able to join us on November 3rd.
We also honor those members of the military this month during Veterans Day on November 11th. If you are a Veteran or you know someone who is, please encourage them to attend the Midland High School Veterans Day Assembly, starting at 9 am on November 11th at the high school. It is a very small way in which we can honor those who have given of themselves, allowing us to live the kind of lives we are able to live, with the freedoms and rights that we should not take for granted.
Happy Thanksgiving!
Julie Albers, Principal
