November 2010
Dear Midland Elementary Parents and Families:
Can you believe that we are already working our way through the second quarter of the school year! We’ve definitely had a taste of cooler and windy weather this week. Please help us to make sure that your children are properly dressed for the outside time at school. Many kids are coming to school without needed warmer coats, gloves/mittens, hats, etc. It is chilly out there in the mornings! We go outside if the air temperature or the wind chill is 20 degrees or higher, so please help your child plan accordingly. Recess is no fun when you are too cold to enjoy your time outside!
Thank you to all of our parents and caregivers who attended Parent Teacher Conferences in October. These meetings give you an opportunity to find out exactly how your child is doing and what you and the classroom teacher can do together to make this year a rewarding and meaningful year for your child. We do have just a few parents who did not have the opportunity to meet with their child’s teacher, so I encourage you to please make arrangements to do so, even if it is a phone conference. Please remember that we can not release the report card until the parent-teacher conference has been held.
This month we celebrate living drug free, alcohol free and tobacco free with Red Ribbon Week, which will begin on November 8th. We have different activities planned each day for the students to help remind them to make good, healthy choices throughout their lives. You can read more about our activities on page 1 of the newsletter. We will also be collecting certain food items for the Lacon Food Pantry as well, showing that we can be “heroes” for others as well. If you are able to assist, we sincerely appreciate your help, but understand that not everyone is in a position to help.
We also honor those members of the military this month during Veterans Day on November 11th. If you are a Veteran or you know someone who is, please encourage them to attend the Midland High School Veterans Day Assembly, starting at 9 am on November 11th at the high school. It is a very small way in which we can honor those who have given of themselves, allowing us to live the kind of lives we are able to live, with the freedoms and rights that we should not take for granted.
Happy Thanksgiving!
Julie Albers, Principal
