From the Principal’s Desk…

Ms. Julie Albers, Principal

Can you believe that we are more than mid-way through the first quarter of this school year? Last week, our first graders spent a morning devoted to “apple activities” as they celebrated the fall season. We know that these activities could not be planned without the support of parents and family members who come in to assist our teachers. We appreciate your support of these projects!

Many of you scheduled your conference with your child’s teacher at Open House…thanks for doing that. Parent-Teacher conferences are such an important time. If you did not have the opportunity to set up a conference time, you will be hearing from your child’s teacher soon (or you may already have!) regarding a day/time. Please make the effort to set up a time to meet with your child’s teacher and discuss his/her progress so far this school year. We need your support in order to be successful in our work with your child.

Our first month back at Market Day was a great success! With almost 70 orders, we earned a profit of just over $300. Orders for this month are due by Wed., October 14th and pick up will be Wed., Oct. 21st from 5:30-6:30 pm. We are asking for kindergarten parents to consider helping with unloading the truck and organizing the orders this month. Please read the newsletter article for more information.

I also want to call you attention to the article about H1N1 Flu and comments from our superintendent, Rolf Sivertsen. As we head into the cold and flu season, it is important to take precautions and be prepared in the event of any type of outbreak. Please take a few moments to review the article and the information on our school website.

You can refer to the enclosed October calendar for an up-to-date schedule for this month’s events and activities. As always, we appreciate your participation and support.

Finally, congratulations to the Midland Middle School girls’ softball team for winning their Sectional and qualifying for the Elite Eight/IESA State Softball tournament last week. Though they lost a tough battle, 3-1, it was so great to see all of our students get excited about the accomplishments of the softball team. We had so much fun lining 5th Street and cheering the girls on as their bus and caravan drove by last Friday morning! Congratulations girls…we are so proud of you!!

We look forward to seeing you and your family throughout the upcoming month…whether it is during our Grandparents Day celebration, at Parent Teacher Conferences or during our Halloween celebrations. There are many opportunities to visit our school and share in your child’s education.

Enjoy this month’s newsletter…and bring on the cooler weather!
