From the Principal’s Desk…
Ms. Julie Albers, Principal
Can you believe that we are more than mid-way through the first quarter of this school year? Two weeks ago, our first graders spent a morning devoted to “apple activities” as they celebrated the fall season. We know that these activities could not be planned without the support of parents and family members who come in to assist our teachers. We appreciate your support of these projects! In addition, a special visitor came to MES to celebrate his birthday and share an apple treat with each student. Ask your child who this special visitor was (and read about it in the newsletter this month!) I’d also like to thank all of the families who attended our Back to School Movie Night at the middle school last Friday night. It was a great opportunity for families to get together and enjoy a good movie and good company. We appreciate your support and attendance at this activity.
Grandparents Day is coming next week! Please refer to the separate note sent home on Wednesday, September 29th for specific directions and explanations for the activities. Instead of asking parents to bake cookies for the refreshments, all cookies will be purchased prior to next Thursday. PTO President Tiona Kimble is in need of parents to help assist with cookie and lemonade distribution to each classroom. If you have a couple of hours to spare on Thursday afternoon, I know she would appreciate the help. Please call her at 361-5437.
Many of you scheduled your conference with your child’s teacher at Open House…thanks for doing that. Parent-Teacher conferences are such an important time. If you did not have the opportunity to set up a conference time, you will be hearing from your child’s teacher soon (or you may already have!) regarding a day/time. Please make the effort to set up a time to meet with your child’s teacher and discuss his/her progress so far this school year. We need your support in order to be successful in our work with your child.
We will celebrate a first successful month of Positive Behavior Interventions and Support (PBIS) with a snow cone party on Thursday afternoon. All students who successfully made good behavior choices throughout the entire month of September will be participating in this activity…snow cones and extra recess! What a great way to end the day on Thursday!! You can read more about the PBIS celebration in the newsletter.
You can refer to the enclosed October calendar for an up-to-date schedule for this month’s events and activities. As always, we appreciate your participation and support.
We look forward to seeing you and your family throughout the upcoming month…whether it is during our Grandparents Day celebration, at Parent Teacher Conferences or during our Halloween celebrations. There are many opportunities to visit our school and share in your child’s education.
Enjoy this month’s newsletter…and bring on the cooler weather! I’m ready for fall!!
