From the Principal’s Desk…
Can you believe that we have just 14 more days left of this school year? It seems like when we hit April, the rest of the year just flies by!!
Congratulations to our second grade students and their teachers-Mrs. Downey, Miss Anderson and Mrs. Davis-for their successful school bake sale held last month. Not only did they show off their “money skills’, but they also collected over $200! Later this month, the second graders will walk to Jim’s IGA, use the money raised to purchase items for the Lacon Food Pantry, then walk to the food pantry with the donated items. Not only will they get an opportunity to display their money handling skills at Jim’s IGA, they will also be supporting our community by helping others who need assistance. And thank you to all students who helped the second graders reach their fundraising goal by purchasing items at the bake sale!
Just a reminder about the upcoming Spring Concerts, which are scheduled on May 6th and May 8th (see newsletter article for more information.) Our students (and Mrs. Oltman!) put so much into planning and preparing for these concerts. They get so excited when they see moms and dads and other family members in the audience. I hope you’ll be able to attend your child’s program, which start at 6:30 pm each night.
I also hope you’ll take a few moments to read our salute to John Heggen on page four of the newsletter. After more than 34 years of serving students and families in the Midland community, John will be retiring at the end of this school year. I could always count on John to provide a wide variety of PE activities for our students-from Frisbees and gymnastics equipment to the parachute and tournament games for the older students-our children received a varied PE experience while in John’s class. During this past year, I have especially enjoyed listening the cheers of our students and their voices coming from the field next to the school during John’s PE classes. We thank John for his years of service to our students and community and know that we will still see him from time to time whether it is behind the wheel of a bus, at sporting events or even at a rock concert! Enjoy retirement, John!
