Computer Maintenance

Clean is GOOD!!! Here's a few helpful tips on cleaning your computer to help keep it running at peak efficiently. First, and an absolute must, UNPLUG power cord from computer, no you can't just turn it off, you MUST pull the plug. Second, beware of static electricity. Common causes of static electricity include, carpet, stocking feet, dry air (winter mostly), sweaters and such. Sparks WILL kill your system so keep this in mind.

Cleaning supplies will vary, but here are some.

Canned air.

Vacuum Cleaner.

Window Cleaner.

Paper Towels.

Phillips Screwdriver.

Notepaper & pencil.

There are also accessories for cleaning your disk drives and your CD-ROM drive. Remember to keep grounded, don't spill anything inside your system and help keep your computer in good running condition.

Cleaning

Most computers don't go bad suddenly. Instead, months or years of dust buildup, static damage and other mistakes slowly degrade the performance of tiny parts. Here's how to clean a computer.

Turn the computer off before cleaning it.

Never pour water directly on any part of the computer. If you must use moisture, get a cloth just a little damp and then rub it on the computer.

Cans of compressed air or small brushes can be purchased that will help get dirt out of keyboards and other places with small cracks and crevices. You can also unplug the keyboard and clean it with a little window cleaner or polish on a cloth.

Clean the monitor with window cleaner sprayed on a cloth. Don’t use paper, you might scratch the screen.

Dust the computer regularly. You can even open up the case and blow dust out, just make sure its off and you don’t use liquids or get rough with small parts. There is a fan inside the case that cools the parts that should be kept relatively dust-free.
