In Illinois,
each high school is required to administer the Prairie State Achievement Test (PSAE)
to all juniors. The PSAE is given in April each school year and takes two days.
This year, the state has scheduled the test on April 22 and 23, 2009. The
PSAE is comprised of the following.
* ACT test in English, math, reading and science reasoning
* WorkKeys tests in reading for information and math applications
* State-developed tests in science and reading.
The test is very important. The results go on each student's transcripts and
students with high scores receive a merit award that is noted on the transcript.
We expect junior students to be present both Day 1 and 2 of PSAE testing.
Attendance is
mandatory.
All
students must take and complete the PSAE exam
BEFORE
they may graduate from
high school - this is a state
requirement. If students do not attend, absences will be unexcused for each day missed.
Students will be required to make up the test at a later date.
At school, we are preparing students by familiarizing students with test format
and test taking strategies. English teachers are passing out materials
provided by the state that include information and sample items.
At home, students can prepare by reading these materials and doing the sample
items.
Below are relevant links that provide additional information about the PSAE as
well as practice items provided on the
state of Illinois' website.
And remember, on
test days, each student should make sure that he/she has an adequate breakfast
and be on time at school. Testing begins at 8:30 am each day.
