Objectives: State Goals 25.A.5 26.B.5
Upon completion of this assignment, students will:
- Be prepared to use their creative talents and produce a Texture Print
- Be able to explain and demonstrate how to create a Texture Print
Supplies:
Information:
There are many ways to add texture to photographic prints. You
can use a textured paper stock, but the variety of textured printing papers are limited,
so most photographers use texture screens. These are transparent films or plates
printed or created with a fine pattern. Screens are sandwiched with the negative for
projection by the enlarger, or they are placed over the printing paper during exposure.
Besides screens, a variety of other items can be used to produce texture patterns:
cloth, plastic wire screens, lens cleaning tissue, glass, netting--almost anything,
as long as the material is translucent.
Procedure:
- Select a negative that has been exposed properly.
- Place this negative in the enlarger.
- Place a sheet of unexposed photographic paper on the enlarger base.
- Place your texture screen on top of this paper.
- Expose the enlargement for the normal amount of time.
- Process your print
Evaluation:
- Fill out exposure information and attach them to the back of your finished photographs
- Self-evaluate yourself directly on the assignment evaluation form
- Place your finished work in a 9x12 clasp envelope and give it to your instructor
Vignetting
Return to the top of this
page
Objectives: State Goals 25.A.5 26.B.5
Upon completion of this assignment, students will:
- Be prepared to use their creative talents and produce a Vignetted Print
- Be able to explain and demonstrate how to create a Vignetted Print
Supplies:
Information:
The vignetting effect is produced by allowing the
central part of the paper to be exposed normally, while 'holding back' the edges and
corners so they gradually merge into whiteness. This is done by holding a card in
which is cut a suitably - shaped hole - usually round or oval - about half way between the
enlarging lens and the image on the paper. To make the transition soft, do not use
too small a lens aperture, and keep the mask moving during the printing exposure. |
 |
Procedure:
- Select a negative that has been exposed properly.
- Place this negative in the enlarger.
- Place a sheet of unexposed photographic paper on the enlarger base.
- Place your vignette mask between the enlarger lens and the
photographic paper, align using a safe filter.
- Expose your print making sure you move the mask slightly.
